The chief minister of Meghalaya has introduced the Meghalaya Tourism Homestay scheme for people who want to build a homestay. The government introduced the scheme for the upcoming national Games in 2027. This is the accommodation facility as a home stay for all the sportspeople and others. The government provides 70% subsidy for the construction of sports hostels in the state. As per the guidelines after the games, these homestays will be run by the entrepreneurs. These homestays will be designed as a sports hostel to tackle the accommodation challenges during the upcoming National Games in Meghalaya. Meghalaya Homestay Subsidy Scheme 2026

Last year, on the occasion of World Tourism Day, the Chief Minister introduced a new website for Meghalaya tourism, which helps all travellers to get information on a single platform. The government introduced such an initiative along with the Meghalaya home stay mission scheme to improve the tourism infrastructure in the state. Meghalaya is one of the tourist destinations and a half for the travellers, and every year a large number of people visit here. The homestay subsidy scheme helps to build the new accommodation facility and to tackle the accommodations short age in the state. The people who want to start their entrepreneurship journey in the home stay sector get the 70% subsidy and up to rupees 10 lakh for the construction of a home stay. The PMEGP provide the 35% cost of the homestay project, and the remaining 35% will be given by the tourism department of Assam. So the applicant will get up to Rs 20 lakh from PMEGP and upto Rs 10 Lakh from the state tourism department. The applicant can build up to two-room homes, dhabas and restaurants for the tourists.
