All meritorious students in Assam are awaiting the new notification regarding the “Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award Scheme 2026”. Recently, in December 2025, the Chief Minister distributed more than 11000 scooters to the eligible students who have scored 80% and above. Women provide this facility only for those students who scored higher in the higher secondary examination 2025. The distribution was held at Guwahati on 8th December. The scheme was launched in 2017, and till now, the government has given scooters to more than 1 lakh students in the state.

Eligibility Criteria
- The student must be a permanent resident of Assam state only.
- The student must have qualified there Higher Secondary final examination from the Assam HSEC.
- For the girls, the eligibility criteria is 80% or more in their Higher Secondary examination.
- For the boys, the eligibility criteria are 80 % or more in their Higher Secondary examination.
- The students who are appearing for the examinations are not eligible for the scheme.
- The dropout students are also not included under the scheme.

Scooty Distribution Process Under Dr Banikanta Kakati Award Scheme
- The government ensure the distribution of the scooter to only those students who have scored 80% and above in their Higher Secondary Education.
- The officials will collect the list of these meritorious students from the Assam State School Education Board.
- Then they will upload the list of eligible students on the Directorate of Higher Education, Assam’s official website.
- The student can check their name in the list and then apply for the scheme.
- The Directorate of Higher Education provide the list of nodal principals who will distribute the scooter To The Eligible beneficiaries.
- The nodal principle will collect the appreciation certificate from the Directorate of Higher Education and hand it over to the eligible students.
- All the eligible students who will get the appreciation certificate can submit it to the dealer.
- Then the government transfer the scooter registration and insurance amount to the nodal principal.
- Further, the nodal principle verifies all the details of the students and then releases the money to the dealer.
- The student does not need to pay any money to the dealer for the registration and Insurance of the scooter.
